A little garden in which to walk, and immensity in which to dream

Last night, I created a little sketch of our future business for you to see.  When we were in Washington, Josh and I visited Jim's U-Fish and fell madly inlove with the idea of starting something similar -- only with an organic twist.  Instead of just a petting zoo... why not let our guests learn how to milk a goat, churn butter, taste homemade cheese, collect eggs, and enjoy some organic fruits and vegetables?

We can't wait to dig our pond and stock it with fish for people to catch.  I am excited to have ducks and mark my words: the very moment that we have water in that pond there will be ducks!  As we did our taxes this year, we realized how close we are to making our dream a reality.  Even before moving here, we were working from our little home computer gathering information about zoning, pond stocking, and insurance.  We made many trips to the various U-fish farms in the Tacoma/Orting/Spanaway area before leaving for Georgia (I am at the U-Fish in Orting, WA in the picture above).

Our planning and hours of labor are finally coming to fruition.  Of course, we fully intend to see all of you who rated "expert" on that little test here at Razor Family Farm someday!

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."  ~John Burroughs

How cool and exciting for you guys! I'm so happy for you! I need to get some of my pictures from the local farm out and post them... there's a farm close by that's open to visitors as a recreational thing so people can see how things happen on a farm - it's one of my very favorite places in the whole world. They have a bunch of picnic areas set up, and of course there is a pond with loads of ducks! My personal favorite is the horses though; I just love horses.

My boyfriend and I were just talking about wanting to travel in the future when we have the means to do it so who knows, we might just get to come see you some day! :)

We would LOVE that! I will keep you posted on our progress. I think it would be really terrific to meet you! I just love your blog! I adore horses, too. One day, we will live in a place where we can have them (we only have three acres here).

Please do post some pictures of that farm. I know my husband will LOVE seeing them (he really likes to look to other farms for inspiration). Me, too!

I'll start sorting through the pictures later today and will make that next weeks Photographic Wednesday. :)

Here's a black and white version of that picture you liked: http://tinyurl.com/3824es

I use Canon; I've heard good things about FujiFilm cameras as well and in fact my brother used to have one and I took some really great pictures with it. Canon is still my brand of choice though. The specific one I'm using now is the Powershot A560. I had a better camera before but it died on me, I still have it should I ever have the money to get it fixed. But my boyfriend bought the A560 for me, it was the best one he could afford to get for me and I do love it. I have my heart set on getting a DSLR some day but for now this one's doing the job quite nicely and it's nice to be able to take it anywhere with me; I couldn't do that with my other camera because it was just too bulky to carry around.

I love your business idea. It looks like fun.

I didn't do well on the quiz. I'm not great at remembering details unless it's an absolute requirement.

Giving guests a chance not only to buy organic fruits and vegetables but to see and experience how a real farm operates...yes! I love the concept! And if I know you, it will all be beautifully laid out. :)

Landon, I just knew you would see things my way! Do you enjoy fishing? Here's the plan: $2 admission, $1 for active duty military, $5 per fish regardless of size (we clean it and wrap it for you), $2 fishing pole rental or bring your own pole (though we must inspect it), $5 pony rides, and we supply bait and duck treats. We'll also have some organic veggies to try and some for sale, as well as goats milk soap for purchase, and organic snacks in the fishing shack. All profits will benefit our local Special Olympics group, Tia Julie's mission group, and another charity of our choice. We will also only be open seasonally. What do you think?

You two continually amaze us. We love all of these plans and know that with hard work they will become a reality for you. The sketch looks awesome. We can't wait to relax beside that pond, sipping fresh lemonade, and enjoying the company of family and friends while nature is happening around us! BTW, we love the quotes.
Leah, we love your pictures. You have exceptional talent.
