Guinea Fowl Hilton

"'Tis but the work of a moment. There we go.  Almost finished."  Love Actually (2003)    May I take a moment and brag on my amazing husband?  Is that allowed?  Last night he finished the guinea house (minus a quick coat of paint on the wood which frames the wire) after a long day at work!

Josh working on the roof (picture taken Monday).

Painted and roofing finished (picture taken Tuesday a.m.)!

One coat of paint shy of completion... guinea fowl moved in (picture taken this a.m.).

Notice their awesome perch made from a vine found in the front yard!

Five of our six guinea fowl chillin' on their nesting box this morning.

He also did all of this without any help from yours truly because I am currently about as useful as a meteor shower.  My right eye has a dreadful infection and ulceration.  Yesterday I could scarcely breathe without experiencing excruciating pain.  My doctor gave strict orders about rest, eye drops every hour, etc.  This resulted in the cancellation of my much-anticipated trip to the Atlanta Trade Show.  I am so disappointed!  I would like to add that my wonderful boss could not have been more kind or more understanding.

Another note about kindness: when the chips are down, you find yourself ill or poor, or perhaps when you are not the most terrific person to be around.... that is when you find your true friends.  True friends help you when you are at the bottom of the pit looking up.  Tuesday, my friends really came through.  First, they lent me clothing for the trade show (thank you, Amanda and Connie) and then took me to the doctor's office (thank you, Connie).  Finally, they called to check on me and managed to hang in there while I complained about pain and discomfort (thank you, Connie, Amanda, Aunt Julie, and Erin).  What would I be without the love and support of such altruistic individuals?

I am off to rest and add more eye drops but couldn't help but post about the blessings of my husband, friendships, and the Christian company which employs me.

Josh&Lacy, The guinea house looks great. Know the guineas are more comfortable in the new house. How long before you get eggs? I've got more egg cartons for you. Connie

awwwwww!! I love them!!! I really want some chickens... not sure if I could get away with that within city limits... but maybe guineas wouldn't be considered a FARM animal!! hmmmm?!?!
Your husband did a GREAT job!! how fun!
I'm SO SORRY about missing the trade show. :-( I know how that feels to anticipate something and then have it fall through. Always a big bummer. Get some really good movies or something to occupy your time while you miss it.
What kind of trade show- what kind of company do you work for??
There is NOTHING like a true friend.

Joshua and Lacy,
WooooHoooo for the guineas, we can see them smiling. :) :) :) You two are an awesome couple, it is evident that you have fun together even in work. Lacy, even though you have not helped as much with the physical labor on this project remember encouragement is priceless. We are praying for your quick recovery. We love you both and are very proud of you!

The guinea fowl look like they are enjoying their new home. The two of you have done a fantastic job building it. Well done! I am so sorry you have been hurting, anam cara. You need movies, wine, and cheese to relax with...all of the best quality of course! By the way, thank you so much for the smoked salmon. It got here on the twelfth day of Christmas! I hope you received the package from Dave and me.

PS I don't want to disturb your recuperation, but let me know when a good time to call would be. I know we used to talk at all hours, but now that we are *ahem* older and more responsible, it's not as practical these days. Take care.

Dearest Landon... What happened to the voicemail I left you?? Lost in the cell towers, no doubt. Hmm... I called when we got our WONDERFUL gifts! The gorgeous wand, terrific (and very soft) t-shirt from CA, and Josh's Art of War book & planner! What thoughtful and personal gifts! We sure wish we could have swapped gifts in person! By the way, I have another package to send to you. Our local post office has closed (too small, says the USPS) so I must find the other closest post office. You would love the little country store which used to house our post office. It is darling!

Tia Julie & Tio Raul, thank you for the compliments! I try to lead Josh's cheering section as often as I can. Truly, this project would have moved along at a faster pace had I done more than cheer!!

Hi Gina! I just knew that you would understand how disappointed I was to miss out on the Atlanta's AmericasMart Home/Gift Trade Show! I work for a Christian company that sells high-end hand tuned chimes. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put the name of the company on this site. You must have a business to buy from them, though. If you are interested, email me and I can let you know more about them. The chimes are stunning! I wonder if you could free-range guinea fowl in your community? They are VERY loud birds but SO useful. That may cause trouble with the neighbors. You could ask around and feel it out. Our neighbor in WA kept a pheasant in his backyard. I don't think anyone even knew it was there until he showed them!

Thank you for commenting! We appreciate your love and support! You make these projects fun!
